Summer is coming! Is your bed ready for the warmer weather?

We will soon be swapping our sweaters and scarves for sundresses and sunglasses because summer is officially on the way.

As temperatures begin to creep steadily upwards, it will become more and more important for us to keep cool during the day and at night-time too.

This is why it is important that we change our bedding according to what season it is. After all, can you imagine anything worse than sweating in a hot, sticky duvet in the height of summertime?

To avoid this discomfort and to ensure that you continue to get a good night’s sleep during our summer months, we have some tips for you to make sure your bed is as summer-ready as you are.

  1. Put away the blankets

With summer approaching, you can finally pack away your heavy blankets, comforters and throws as your quilt will take over from here for a couple of months.

That said; if you have a very thick or dense down or feather quilt, you should replace it with something a little lighter. A wool quilt is the best option as you can keep it on your bed all year round.

This is because Aussie wool quilts can regulate your body temperature naturally as they have the ability to draw moisture away from your body if it starts to overheat but can give you warmth if you’re feeling chilly.

For comfort all year round, a wool quilt really is a perfect choice.

  1. Switch to cotton

You should also consider replacing your bed linen at this time of year. Your flannelette and satin bed sheets should be stored away carefully and be replaced with light and breathable cotton sheets which will keep you feeling much more cool and refreshed as you sleep.

You should also cover your quilt in a light, cotton quilt cover to further enhance the quality of your sleep. Cotton is a perfect choice for bed linen during the summer as it is loosely woven and therefore much more breathable when compared with other fabrics.

  1. Lighten up!

During summertime, it’s important to let as much natural light into your bedroom as possible so consider swapping your heavy, dark curtains for lighter pairs that are sheer.

These types of curtains will allow light in and keep heat out which will maximise your overall comfort by creating an optimal temperature in your home.

Adding some mirrored items to your room such as a mirrored dressing table or even a large mirror on one side of your bedroom will also maximise the light entering your bedroom.

  1. Add some colour

There is nothing nicer than seeing lots of bright and vibrant colours when the sun is shining outside, right? Introduce a splash of colour into your bedroom by swapping out your darker bedding with pastel shades of light blue, pinks, greens and purples.

And, for a real summery feel, get yourself some patterned bedding that incorporates some of these lighter shades. Flowers and swirls are always a great idea when it comes to summer bedding.

Don’t deprive yourself of sleep this coming season. Get the right bedding and you will always be well rested and ready for an action packed and beach filled summer schedule.
